Website Accessibility

Simple and Consistent
Our web site uses simple information architecture with uniform navigation and reliable headings throughout. Content layout and graphical design are consistent on every page.

The Skip to navigation appears at the top of each page. It allows the user to jump to the content area of each page and skip the navigation and other header elements, which repeat on every page.

  • Main Site Navigation
The main navigation, located above the title banner uses lists. Lists make it easier for screen readers to literally read down the list without having to sort through unnecessary code. Lists also allow the users to use the tab key to move from link to link.

  • Images with Alternative Text
Photographs and other relevant images on the site are accompanied by alternative text (the alt attribute of the Image <img /> tag). Alt tags provide a written description of the image, which is accessible to screen readers. This is also useful for people who have images turned off on their browser, in which case a description will display where the image used to be.

  • Style Sheets
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are used for content layout and many graphical elements (color, font styles, custom titles and subtitles, etc.) Using CSS for styling keeps our HTML clean, streamlined, easier to maintain, and it downloads faster.

  • No Sound? No Images?
It may not be pretty, but all content is accessible without sound, color, scripts or graphics.

If you have problems with either the accessibility of this web site, please contact the District 8 Website Coordinator.

Website Guidelines

The following guidelines for this site were established by Group Conscience of the Al-Anon Family Groups, District 8. These guidelines may be amended from time to time without prior notice.

Anonymity

The Eleventh Tradition states that members should "...always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, films, and TV." It is the policy of this site to maintain anonymity of all Al-Anon and Alcoholics Anonymous members.

Content Updates

Content updates are made from time to time and without prior notice. Content updates are the responsibility of the District 8 Website Coordinator. If you find content that is incorrect, please notify the Website Coordinator using the contact web form.

Links to Other Sites

Links to other sites are determined by the District 8 Website Coordinator and based on Tradition Six, "Our Family Groups ought never endorse, finance or lend our name to any outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary spiritual aim. Although a separate entity, we should always cooperate with Alcoholics Anonymous." This policy allows for links to other Al-Anon and AA (in the spirit of cooperation) websites and excludes links to outside enterprises in accordance with Al-Anon Traditions.

Meeting Listings

Meeting listings on this site have a group ID Number issued by the Al-Anon World Service Office (WSO). If you wish to list an Al-Anon meeting with District 8, please use the SCWS Group Records web form to register the group. SCWS will register the meeting with WSO and provide a WSO ID Number to the District 8 Website Coordinator and District Representative. Upon notification from SCWS, the District 8 Website Coordinator will add the meeting to the District 8 website. Groups who are disbanding should contact SCWS so the group can be removed from the WSO database and the District 8 website.
